GOALS OF THE PROMISELAND PRISON MINISTRY TEAM

GOAL #1: To fulfill the Great Commission to those men and women who have been convicted of crimes and reside at a local, county, state or federal prison.

RATIONALE: Jesus said, "...Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you (Matthew 28:19,20)." And that "...repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations ({bible 50}Luke 24:47
{/bible})." "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned (Mark 16:15,16)." "Then said Jesus to them again, 'Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so I send you'(John 20:21)."

Indeed, God thought of everyone when He sent His flesh to die for us. He thought no less of those who are incarcerated.

Jesus said, "I was in prison and ye came unto me." Matthew 25:36

As Christians, we have this imperative to reach out to those who are incarcerated to minister hope. We are obliged to minister Paul's certified Gospel, "...to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance amount them which are sanctified by faith that is in me (Acts 26:18).

OBJECTIVES OF GOAL #1:

  • To teach prisoners the Word of God through Prison Fellowship Workshops.
  • To teach prisoners through Bible studies.
  • To assist the prison chaplain in designated areas of need.
  • To establish church worship services in the prison.
  • To promote the fellowship of the gospel by ministering to prisoners through athletics.
  • To urge Christians who desire to minister to the prisoners to apply for security clearance, and to attend a security briefing sponsored by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

GOAL #2: To encourage active participation by the Christian community to support the various efforts and activities of the Prison Ministry Team (both inside and outside the prison walls) through prayer, fasting, and giving.

RATIONALE: Christians can be an active part of the Prison Ministry Team, even though they may not venture behind prison bars. For example, the U.S. Air Force employs choice, skilled, and courageous pilots who risk their lives flying aircrafts while engaging the enemy. Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Most are not. However, those who do not fly have a specific job that is essential in support of those pilots that wage war in the air. Together, both make sure the mission is carried out.

In like manner, there will be those Prison Ministry Team Members who minister inside the prison walls. However, they will need to support of those who do not go with them.

OBJECTIVES OF GOAL #2:

  • To enlist individuals/groups to pray and fast for the Prison Ministry Team.
  • To establish the Angel Tree program each Christmas. For more details about the Angel Tree Program, please visit their website: www.angeltree.org
  • To request that PromiseLand membership to purchase one paperback book and one soft cover Bible at the PromiseLand Bookstore annually, to be donated directly to the prisons.
