It was a picturesque fall afternoon as PromiseLand couples descended upon King's Ranch in Salado for what would be a most memorable evening. Miles away from the hustle and bustle of the big city - couples were able to kick back and relax, enjoying activities such as horseshoes, hayrides, and even a BB gun shooting range.
After spending a couple of hours working up an appetite, supper was officially announced in true Hill Country fashion with the ringing of the dinner bell. Couples eagerly formed a chow line and soon were enjoying heaping portions of salad, beans, cornbread, and fittingly King's Ranch casserole. Those who managed to save a little room for dessert had their choice between banana pudding and triple chocolate or coconut cream cake.
As evening fell and it's twilight began to overtake the skies couples soon gathered around the campfire. Couples took turns introducing themselves and sharing tidbits of info. Although this was the first time that many of these couples had actually met outside of church walls it seemed the coziness of the campfire put everyone at ease. After an encouraging testimony given by the hosts Danny & Judy King the group transitioned into a time of praise and worship, led by the trio of Chon & Elena Trevino and Tony Perez. It was an incredibly intimate experience and the atmosphere began to change as the presence of the Lord could be felt very strongly.
Following the Spirit's lead several people began to share timely words, this ultimately prompted others to step forward and request prayer for situations that they were currently facing in their families, marriages, finances, and workplaces. The couples rallied around those in need, praying for them with the laying on of hands and encouraging them. In addition to the sharing of burdens the couples shared many tears during this time. Praise and worship picked back up and it seemed the presence of the Lord grew more intense, to the point where everyone was in a state of awe and unsure of what to do next.
Following the prompting of the Spirit the group felt the only appropriate manner which we could bring closure to this experience was to partake in Communion together. In a matter of minutes we had passed out graham crackers (intended for Smores) and cups of juice. There were several minutes of self examination and repentance while the guitar played melodically in the background. After the elements were consumed the group took a few more minutes to reflect on what God had just done and thanked him with one more song of praise and worship.
Although no one wanted to leave the night was growing late so couples began to say their goodbyes before departing. It was amazing how through the course of the night the group truly bonded and everyone seemed to comment how they felt so close to the others who they shared this experience with. The following morning at Sunday service these same couples could be seen greeting one another and reminiscing on what had happened the night before.
